Book Genre

Picture- a book with many illustrations a highly illustrated book, especially one for children, written in a simple style.

Poetry- is a form of literary art in which language is used for its aesthetic and evocative qualities in addiction to, or in lieu of, it’s apparent meaning. Poems in general or as a form of literature.

Fantasy- imaginative power: the creative power of the imagination. Literature genre of fiction: a type of fiction featuring imaginary worlds and magical of supernatural events. An imaginative, unreal picture thought or story.

Science Fiction- fiction based on futuristic science: a form of fiction usually set in the future, that deals with imaginary scientific and technological developments and conflict with other worlds. Folklore- traditional local stories: traditional stories and explanations passed down in a community or country. Local legends: stories and gossip that become traditional within a group of people

Realistic Fiction- if events in the story did not really happen but could have. Fantastic elements such as magic, aliens, talking animals, or ridiculous exaggerations move a book out of this category and into other genre.

Historical Fiction- is a sub genre of fiction that often portrays fictional accounts or dramatization of historical figures of events. Is a story that takes place during a notable period in history, and usually during a significant event in that period? It often presents actual events from the point of view of people living in that period.

Autobiography/ Biography- Autobiography- life story written by self: an account of somebody’s life written by that person. Biography- account of somebody’s life: an account of somebody’s life written or produced by another person, e.g. as a book, movie, or television program. Biographies in general: books about people’s lives, considered as a whole or as a type of literature.

Graphic Novels- Comic book for adults: a fictional story for adults published in the form of a comic book.

Japanese Manga- a Japanese graphic novel, typically intended for adults, characterized by highly stylized art. Are comics and print cartoons, in Japanese and conforming to the style developed in Japan in the late 20th century? Japanese comic books or animated cartoons, often very violent or erotic.
